FYI: Abalone Mountain Run: Journey to Protect Sacred Sites.
This is an announcement about a run SAGE Council is doing from the Petroglyphs to the San Francisco Peaks (Flagstaff, AZ). It is called:
Abalone Mountain Run: Journey to Protect Sacred Sites.
We are planning in conjunction with other organizations from Apache, Flagstaff, Havasupai & Hualapai, Hopi, Navajo, Zuni and other AZ and NM tribes and Pueblos. Runners from each of these places and all over AZ & NM will be joining us along the way. Each group will start from their respective sacred site to unite our struggles and efforts in a spiritual run: from the Grand Canyon, from Hopi, from Mount Graham, from Zuni Salt Lake, and from the Petroglyphs; to the San Francisco Peaks (known as “Dook’o’oslííd” or Abalone Mountain to the Dine’).
On Saturday (July 23, 2005), we will do an opening prayer ceremony to kick off the run, at the volcanoes on the Westside of Albuquerque at 6:30 AM. We will arrive at San Francisco Peaks on Friday (July 29, 2005), where there will be supper, a prayer gathering, and other ceremony all weekend. Our schedule is outlined below in the email from Sonny and at our website sagecouncil.org/action.html . For more info on the purpose, a listing of tribal participation so far, and the ceremonies please scroll down to the letter from Dine’ Bidziil Coaltion.
Runners will do one mile at a time until we get to our destination—so the more RUNNERS we have, the easier it will be. Only small portions of the run will be along I-40, the rest will be along side roads and through the rez. If you would like to sign up to run or know of runners, contact sonny@sagecouncil.org. We will provide food and water, and are securing lodging. If anyone knows of places to stay at the following locations, contact law@sagecouncil.org. We are also in need of supplies (camping gear) to borrow and donations of funds, food, and (of course) water. For contributions, contact leona@sagecouncil.org (for supplies) or roberto@sagecouncil.org (funds & food).
If you are unavailable to run or be at the opening prayer, you can support us by helping with anything mentioned above. For a more information, email one of the contacts listed or call SAGE Council at 505.260.4696. Also, please feel free post the attached flyer where you can, thanks.
Remember us during the next week as we will need all the prayers, good thoughts, and positive energy you can put forth.
Thank you !!
