The judges' desicion to use reclaimed water (cleaned sewage water) on our Dook’o’oslííd is very dissappointing and painful. Dook’o’oslííd is one of our 4 sacred mountains, the San Fransisco Peaks. This is all about greed, never about human rights or freedom of religion. Greed always seems to come first when our Native peoples cultural identities and beliefs are at stake. America is still trying to wipe away who we are and the sad thing about it is there are so many Natives who do not care and do not bother to educate themselves. It was very hard to get others involved in Saving the Peaks, mainly teenagers and adults were hard to get involved. All we have are the younger elementary children who are eager to learn and wanting to fight for what is right and those who were being taught about our traditions from birth. We NEED MORE SUPPORT! GET OUT THERE AND BE APART OF THE MOVEMENT!
My family and I have met so many eldery people, very young people, medecine men, medecine women, parents, grandparents, students, people from back east and people from across sea's who were here to fight and to support Native Traditions, Beliefs and Identities at these ralleys, runs and get togethers. They all felt strongly about keeping our Dook’o’oslííd as it is. I cannot imagine how they are feeling now. Think about all that has been taken from our people and how our medecine men feel. I have spoken to many other Navajo people who have felt that too much has already been taken from us and they are in fear of our culture being lost. Already, we have lost part of our language, different ceremonies, prayers and now our Dook’o’oslííd.
The people we have met are all amazing people and those who all fought are amazing as well. You all have touched my family and our youth group in some way, you will always be in our hearts and prayers. Thank You!
